The E2 visa is a non-Immigrant visa for Nationals of treaty countries (Turkey, Grenada, Montenegro, Italy, UK etc) which allows them to start a business in the United States and work for that business temporarily. It allows entrepreneurs to develop, direct the operations of an enterprise, or provide specialised skills to an enterprise in which the owner has invested or in the process of investing a substantial amount of capital.
The E-2 Visa can be switched to an eligible immigrant visa category, which may eventually lead to a U.S. Green Card or permanent settlement in the United States.
The investor must actively develop and direct their own U.S. business, while the spouse is free to pursue any employment or work activity in the United States.

The Government determines, by Cabinet Decisions, which projects and which amounts of investment shall qualify as a “substantial investment” and thus lead to eligibility under the Citizenship-by-Investment Program.
